Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery

Orthognathic Surgery:

Ortho means straighten and gnathia means jaw and hence, Orthognathic Surgery means straightening of the jaw(s) by surgery. Through Orthognathic Surgery the Surgeon could reposition the bones of the face and the jaw to a more aesthetically acceptable position.

The day-to-day area of work of an oral surgeon includes:-
Removal of impacted wisdom teeth.
Removal of teeth with twisted roots, which are deeply hooked within the bone.
Treatment of swellings due to infection. e.g. drainage of pus from the various space infection
Removal of benign growths in the mouth.

Impacted Teeth:

In dental terminology an “impacted” tooth refers to a tooth that has failed to emerge fully into its expected position in the oral cavity.

  • Swelling of the gum in the back of your mouth
  • Difficulty opening your jaw
  • Bad breath
  • A bad taste in the mouth
  • Pain when you open your mouth
  • Pain when chewing or biting
